New requirements for approved providers of residential care services to provide new approved form as well as information on request

In relation to care recipients who enter a residential care service to be provided with non-respite care in the form of palliative care on or after 23 July 2022, approved providers of residential care services are now required to submit an approved form to the Department of Health and Aged Care (Department) within 14 days, (or such longer period as the Department allows), after the approved provider notifies the Department of the entry of the care recipient into the service. This form is known as the ‘Palliative Care Status Form’ and is intended to be submitted to the Department via the My Aged Care Portal. This form is available for download here.

In addition, where an approved provider of a residential care service is requested by the Department to provide information or documents in relation to a care recipient who has been assessed as having palliative care status, approved providers should note that they are now required to comply with that request within 7 days after the day the request was made.

Conclusion

Organisations that are approved providers of residential care services should implement policies and procedures to ensure they meet the new requirements relating to care recipients (who are to be provided with non-respite care in the form of palliative care), as discussed above.
