Natalie is the Director of Health Legal and is a pragmatic and efficient Legal Counsel.

Clients value Natalie’s breadth of industry knowledge, her commercial approach and personable style.

Natalie has been providing legal services to the public and private health sectors for over 20 years and prior to commencing at Health Legal was a partner in a large national law firm. Natalie advises Senior Executives and Boards of Management on exposure to liabilities, good governance, contractual relationships, and strategic issues.

Natalie has been involved in managing and documenting substantial information technology, clinical and non-clinical tendering and outsourcing projects. She has also drafted a vast range and number of supply and service agreements for both the profit and not for profit sectors. Natalie has provided a wide range of advice impacting on the health, research and aged care sectors covering all aspects of the operation of those organisations including common law and legislative requirements.

Natalie has acted as probity auditor and provided probity advice for significant public hospital clinical and non-clinical outsourcing arrangements.

In 2004 Natalie developed a legislative compliance product for health care and welfare providers, focusing specifically on the needs of both the public and private sectors. The register covers all Commonwealth and State legislation and regulations which apply to health care, welfare and aged care providers.

As one of the Legal Counsel of Health Legal, Natalie has responsibility for all litigation and court matters which Health Legal has represented parties. These matters include proceedings in the High Court of Australia, the Family Court, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the County Court, the Magistrates’ Court, the Coroners’ Court and VCAT.

Since 2012, Claudia has been recognised by her peers as one of Australia's best lawyers in the field of health and aged care (awarded by Australia's Best Lawyers).

Claudia started her career in the then Department of Social Security in Canberra as a policy analyst and later worked with the Salvation Army completing the Forced Exit Report on youth homelessness before taking up executive positions with the Department of Health and Community Services, and later, embarking on a legal career.

Claudia has now been providing legal services to the health sector for over 16 years. Prior to commencing at Health Legal, Claudia was the General Counsel at Austin Health for 8 years and prior to that was a member of the health team at Philips Fox.

Claudia has direct experience in all aspects of health law advice and has a special interest in the role of the law in both quality improvement and efficient service delivery.

In the public sector, Claudia has worked in youth and family services, mental health and aged care and retains a keen interest in the regulation and development of services for vulnerable clients.

Claudia enjoys a diverse practice ranging from urgent advice on refusal of treatment or access to human tissue, the provision of detailed advice on matters such as privacy of genetic information, assisting in Coronial Investigations and guardianship matters and the drafting and negotiating of state-wide procurement contracts.

Claudia and the team at Health Legal have extensive practice in the provision of advice and representation of Centres Against Sexual Assault in the protection of sensitive client records.

A current focus is the development of privacy and health records law in response to developing and e-health technologies.

Claudia's extensive government and community sector experience makes her particularly sensitive to the need for practical, cost-efficient and strategic advice. Claudia developed an effective user-friendly contract management and precedent system at Austin Health utilising existing resources and has recently provided advice to health services on the establishment of legal services functions.

Alon is an experienced Associate Legal Counsel at Health Legal.

Alon provides expert and practical advice to health sector clients about complying with their statutory and contractual obligations and managing legal risks around those issues. In addition, Alon has extensive experience assisting health sector clients in negotiating commercial agreements and advising about their rights under those agreements.

Alon's commercial experience includes drafting and providing advice about IT contracts, tendering and procurement agreements and government funding agreements. When a dispute arises, Alon works with clients to resolve the dispute.

In addition, Alon has experience providing advice to statutory authorities and research alliances about their compliance with privacy and record keeping obligations. Alon's experience also extends to advising about the governance of statutory authorities, including matters related to managing conflict of interest and making decisions with delegated authority.

Clients rely on Alon for his expertise and strategic insights concerning employment related matters. Alon regularly provides advice to employers about their obligations under the Fair Work Act and in relation to disciplinary proceedings and termination of employment.

Alon's litigation experience includes representing health sector clients in a range of courts and tribunals such as FOI proceedings before VCAT, in family maintenance actions before the Supreme Court of Victoria, in resisting subpoenas and in appearing before a royal commission.

Alon's in-house counsel experience includes delivering training as well as providing commercial and regulatory compliance advice to boards and executive management.

Sarah is an experienced Senior Associate at Health Legal.

Sarah has both commercial and litigation experience.

Sarah has extensive experience in negotiating, drafting and advising on commercial agreements including supply and service agreements, IT and software agreements, and leasing including Crown leasing. She also has experience in due diligence.

Sarah has particular expertise in intellectual property. Sarah has a graduate diploma in Intellectual Property and has advised extensively on ownership and protection of intellectual property. She has also drafted and negotiated a broad range of intellectual property agreements, including licences of intellectual property, research and commercialisation agreements and franchise agreements. Sarah also has experience in contentious intellectual property matters.

Teresa is the Chief Operations Officer of Law Compliance and is a dedicated and enthusiastic lawyer.

Prior to joining Health Legal, Anne worked at a major national private healthcare organisation gaining experience in corporate legal compliance, due diligence and quality and risk management.

Anne is experienced in the conduct of workplace and coronial investigations and has assisted numerous clients with various FOI appeals and applications.

Anne also has experience in advising on a range of health related matters for hospitals and other health related bodies, including a broad range of medico-legal matters, the laws governing the supply and administration of drugs, consent and access to medical records issues. 

Anne has a particular interest in confidential communications privilege and has extensive experience acting on behalf of hospitals and counselling services in relation to the resisting of documentation subpoenas.

Anne also manages and updates the FAQ Medico-Legal Handbook that Health Legal produces for Victorian public and private health services, which covers all of the medico-legal questions which are frequently asked by health service staff.
