Since 2012, Claudia has been recognised by her peers as one of Australia's best lawyers in the field of health and aged care (awarded by Australia's Best Lawyers).
Claudia started her career in the then Department of Social Security in Canberra as a policy analyst and later worked with the Salvation Army completing the Forced Exit Report on youth homelessness before taking up executive positions with the Department of Health and Community Services, and later, embarking on a legal career.
Claudia has now been providing legal services to the health sector for over 16 years. Prior to commencing at Health Legal, Claudia was the General Counsel at Austin Health for 8 years and prior to that was a member of the health team at Philips Fox.
Claudia has direct experience in all aspects of health law advice and has a special interest in the role of the law in both quality improvement and efficient service delivery.
In the public sector, Claudia has worked in youth and family services, mental health and aged care and retains a keen interest in the regulation and development of services for vulnerable clients.
Claudia enjoys a diverse practice ranging from urgent advice on refusal of treatment or access to human tissue, the provision of detailed advice on matters such as privacy of genetic information, assisting in Coronial Investigations and guardianship matters and the drafting and negotiating of state-wide procurement contracts.
Claudia and the team at Health Legal have extensive practice in the provision of advice and representation of Centres Against Sexual Assault in the protection of sensitive client records.
A current focus is the development of privacy and health records law in response to developing and e-health technologies.
Claudia's extensive government and community sector experience makes her particularly sensitive to the need for practical, cost-efficient and strategic advice. Claudia developed an effective user-friendly contract management and precedent system at Austin Health utilising existing resources and has recently provided advice to health services on the establishment of legal services functions.
